52 people died in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand due to thunderstorm (File)
The weather has once again wreaked havoc in North India. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, there has been heavy damage due to strong storms, rain, lightning and hailstorm. So far 52 people have died in the three states. Of these, 25 people have died in Bihar, 22 in UP and 5 in Jharkhand. In Bihar, the worst impact was seen in Nalanda district, where 18 people died. Lives have also been reported from other districts such as Siwan, Katihar, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Bhagalpur and Jehanabad. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Heavy rains have also caused waterlogging in Patna.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in many districts like Patna, Nalanda, Nawada, Gaya, Darbhanga, Champaran. There has been a warning of heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.
22 people have died in UP. Lightning, hail and thunderstorm also killed 45 cattle and damaged 15 houses. The most affected districts are Fatehpur, Azamgarh, Firozabad, Kanpur Dehat, Sitapur, Ballia, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Amethi, Jaunpur etc. CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered a relief of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased. Along with this, instructions have also been given to treat the injured and give compensation for animal loss.
In Jharkhand, hailstorm covered roads and fields with a sheet of snow. There were 3 deaths in Hazaribagh, while 1-1 deaths occurred in Churchu and Gumla. Trees and electric poles were uprooted by the strong winds, blocking roads in many areas. Daltonganj recorded the highest rainfall of 31.8 mm. The weather was also bad in Ranchi and other areas.
Standing crops in all three states were damaged by hailstorm and water. Fields were flooded and trees were uprooted in many places. Farmers have suffered huge losses.
